Manchester United fans refer to him as Larry White, but you’ll know Laurent Blanc as being the French sweeper who used to kiss the bald head of Fabian Barthez before every match. After retiring from the game in 2003 with Manchester United, the 42 year old had some time to sit and reflect on the amazing playing career he had.

Now back in the game as a manager of FC Girondins de Bordeaux since June of 2007, Blanc has inspired with a different philosophy and has seen immediate results this term. After this weekend’s thrashing of Monaco to a tune of 6-0, Bordeaux has climbed into Ligue 1′s second place behind leaders Olympique Lyonnais by only 1 point and have the home Uefa leg against Belgian club Anderlecht after losing away 2-1.
