Our Boy Luke in Argentina
So I got to Argie on Saturday and have been eating and drinking like a pig
the whole time. I´m experiencing my favorite line from You, Me & Dupree I
went to Argentina and everyone seemed to be sitting around doing
nothing…..it was beautiful. It´s so true, people have time to meet you
for coffee any time of day. 1:00 in the afternoon or 11:00 at night is
the same for them.
I went to watch Newell´s/Tigre on Sunday and it was awesome. There´s
nothing like going to a game here, it´s impossible to describe. I
happened to be right behind a group of 8 Mormons from Santa Barbara who
went to the field to experience it and they couldn´t believe it. They
were shitting their pants when I got there…..terrified. They were
comforted a little with me behind them but they were still scared out of
their minds.
This Saturday I´ll be at the one game I´ve waited my whole life to go to,
Newell´s/Rosario Central. It´s our city´s derby game and people were already
getting excited about it at the stadium last weekend. When the game was
over our fans were sending a message to their fans singing. We have to beat
those son of a bitches, over and over. It´s going to be incredible.

I served my mission in Curitiba Brazil (I’m Mormon too). I went to see Corinthians play Parana Clube, a small to medium sized local club. I would compare the match-up to the Yankees playing the local AAA farm team. Somehow, we managed to catch a ride to the game with the Parana Clube supporters group. It’s a long story. The match miraculously ended a 0-0 draw. Despite the heroics of the home team the fans weren’t the least bit please. Not just the hard cores, I mean every single person at the game. I can trace my entire vocabulary of off color, and offensive portuguese slang to that game. Well that and public telephones.
[…] The best part about the game is when we scored the third goal, I didn’t even celebrate. […]
