Pachuca Take Champions Cup With A 3-1 Aggregate

Filed under: Concacaf Champions Cup 2008

Once again Pachuca will be representing CONCACAF at the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan that will take place in December after beating Saprissa 3-1 in aggregate last night.

There was never really any doubt as to who the best team in the 2008 CONCACAF Champions Cup was.  Pachuca was dominant throughout the tournament and was a team that could achieve the most important of all, get a result on the road.

From the opening round match up against Motagua (a 1-0 aggregate) to getting that all important goal on the road at DC United (a 3-2 aggregate),  dominated at Saprissa even though they only came away with a 1-1 result after Saprissa scored in the dying moments.  Last nights match was once again a classic Enrique Meza / Pachuca domination, collapsing defensively in the midfield, frustrating opponents to the point where they were making low percentage passes and then springing into the attack as a unit, with numbers.

The performance once again from Christian “El Choco” Gimenez was superb, with his constant work rate finding space in behind the Saprissa defense.   Miguel Calero was his typical self in goal, coming up with amazing saves on the Ronald Gomez header and the Celso Borges shot from distance.  But don’t forget about Damian Alvarez and his combination passing throughout the night, his ability to hold the ball in tight spaces and the constant shooting presence at the top of the 18 yard box.
