Zenit Vs Rangers in Uefa Cup Final
Filed under: UEFAYou’ve gotta give it up to both Zenit St. Petersburg and Glasgow Rangers for making it to the Uefa Cup Finals after pretty much everyone except their own supporters wrote them off as easy Semi-Final opponents.
After a nil-nil result at Ibrox, Walter Smith’s men headed to the always difficult Stadio Artemio Franchi, got another nil-nil result that forced penalties. Things didn’t start off right with Barry Ferguson’s first taken saved, but won 4-3 after Fiorentina’s Liverani and Vieri missed.
Zenit got the 1-1 result in Munich and headed back to the potato patch of St. Petersburg. A 4-nil result was a crushing blow to the heavily favored Germans, who suffered the biggest Eurpean defeat since 2002.
The giant killers Zenit are only the second Russian team to make the Finals since CSKA Moscow won it all in 2005.
Now for the Final match up and Zenit’s Dutch coach Dick Advocaat facing his old club Glasgow Rangers on May 14th in Manchester.
