Bicycle Kick Gone Wrong And A Pre-Match Injury

Lawson Vaughn 2

I don’t know how man of you were able to watch the Chivas USA game at Houston last night, but I was fortunate to be there calling the match with FSN-West along with Christian Miles and it was one of the better games played this season even with a nil-nil result and 8 cards dished out.

Above is Chivas’ right back Lawson Vaughn who took an attempted right foot, bicycle kick from Dwayne DeRosario to the face in the 13th minute.

Vaughn obviously had to leave the match and was taken immediately to the locker room by Athletic Trainer Josh Beaumont to have his nose RE-SET and have the giant gash butterfly taped.

BUT this wasn’t the only injury on the night. After the Championship Ring Ceremony for the Dynamo, a Firework guy pretty much blew his face off right before the National Anthem. As the poor guy was leaning face first over the explosive device, it blew up early and exploded in his face.

The worst part was that no one (the field staff or medical staff) realized what had happened and as we had had a camera on him, you could clearly see the poor guy spitting his teeth out like Chicklits, bleeding from the corners of his eyes and his hair singed half way back on the top and sides of his hair.
