The Worst Day For An MLS Player
Filed under: MLS, MoneyUPDATE - Add Colorado’s Rafael Gomes to the list with 7 games played since March 3rd, 2008.
This is one of those days that MLS players hate because at midnight tonight it’s roster compliance deadline and all of those Semi-guaranteed contracts become permanent as of 12:01am, July 1st.
Think about it this way, getting paid through the end of today or getting paid through the end of December 31st.
That means that MLS coaches around the league are finalizing salary cap budgets, assessing players form and speaking to other coaches around the league to see what moves can be made.
All this and you still have practice… Players will be flying around in training today!
Wonder what names we’ll see start hitting the world wide net as we’ve already seen Columbus’ Niko Hernandez and DC’s Franco Niell let go.
Trust me, every player who hears their phone ring today will be on edge, hoping that call isn’t from the team manager, coach or front offices.

Rosenborg BK is the team that made the million dollar bid on Kenny Cooper. I guess they are in Norway. Cooper Snr is the US Scout for Newcastle, I wonder if Cooper Jr could get a tryout w/them…?
