UPDATE -  Vicente Del Bosque has been appointed the new boss of Spain after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced that on Wednesday the former Real Madrid head coach will be formally introduced to the media in Madrid.

The 57 year old Del Bosque’s contract will run through the end of the 2010 World Cup.

With 70 year old Luis Aragones stepping down as Spanish head coach after winning the 2008 European Championship and signing a two year deal to coach Turkish side Fenerbache, the RFEF (Spain’s Football Federation) stepped up it’s search for someone to replace him.

All indications are pointing to former Real Madrid and Besiktas coach Vicente Del Bosque, as local media is saying an agreement has already been reached.

Del Bosque has worn the red of Spain 18 times during his days at Real Madrid between 1973-84 as a Defensive Midfielder and many thought that after the 2006 World Cup Del Bosque would take the reigns of Mexico, but the Spaniard declined after taking two weeks to think about it.

Del Bosque was also in line to replace Fabio Capello and return to Real Madrid until Bernd Schuster took over almost exactly one year ago this week.
