Former Captain and Spanish International David Albelda has finally been told that he will be able to leave the Mestalla after an ongoing dramatic affair which started with Dutchman and former Valencia Head Coach Ronald Koeman back in December of 2007.

Along with Miguel Angel Angulo and Santiago Canizares, Albelda was first informed that he’d be dropped from the squad and forced to train alone on the side, without explanation. With the blessing of the former president, Koeman went on with business as usual until getting the sack in April after a 5-1 loss Bilbao. Koeman had taken over the former Champions League club at 4th place and subsequently drove them to 16th place, two points atop the Relegation Zone.

Forced to take the club to court in hopes of breaking the contract he renewed just the summer before Koeman got the job, Albelda was given no alternative after being cast aside for no apparent reason other than being disliked by Koeman (who has a history of doing ((half way down)) this by the way, ask Huerelho Gomes and Ibrahim Afellay).

Now Valencia’s new Head Coach Unai Emery has admitted that the relationship on both sides is irretrievable and that Albelda is finally free to move on.

“There have been painful situations that are still very recent,” Emery told Radio 9. “At a moment you have to think of what is the best for everybody, and David Albelda should look for an exit to try and find an edge elsewhere.”
