Xavier Waived By Galaxy
Filed under: LA Galaxy, Transfer NewsUPDATE - Kyle McCarthy from Goal.com has an incredibly open interview with the former Portguese International Abel Xavier about his dismissal from the Los Angeles Galaxy and what was said to him by Dutch coach Ruud Gullit.
Wow… These are the types of interviews you’re not used to seeing in print.
With the addition of Argentine Eduardo Dominguez, the Los Angeles Galaxy had to make a move in the roster department to comply with MLS rules.
That meant former Portuguese International Abel Xavier was the odd man out after being officially release Friday.
Xavier has played for Benfica, PSV, Everton, Liverpool, Galatasaray, Hannover, Roma and Middlesbrough during a 17 year career that saw him play 20 times for Portugal, the highlight being his Euro 2000 and 2002 World Cup inclusion.
“Abel has been a wonderful professional at our club and I want to personally thank him for coming to
Xavier played just 20 times over the course of a year and a half.

I like Xavier. Like to see ‘em stay in MLS. Maybe San Jose?
Youz guyz are out there…Does this complaint by X feel reasonable, or simply sour grapes?
Personally, I never felt his pedigree showed during his time @ the Gals.
The dude’s matador-style defense was pretty weak from what I saw this year. However, I liked the guy. He had some attitude and style. I somehow can’t see him in KC or Columbus though.
Unfortunately I think his best days are behind him. Never seems to be in the right position, and this has caused a lot of problems. When he was younger this wasn’t as much of a problem because he could always make up for any mistakes physically. Not sure that is the case anymore.
