Casiraghi Names Rossi To Olympic Squad
Filed under: Giuseppe Rossi, Italy, OlympicsFormer Chelsea striker Pierluigi Casiraghi (and his former Chelsea drop-back forward, Assistant Gianfranco Zola) have named their official 2008 Olympic Squad that’s heading for Beijing.
Italy’ squad: Abate (Milan), Acquafresca (Cagliari), Bocchetti (Genoa), Cigarini (Parma), Coda (Udinese), Consigli (Atalanta), Criscito (Genoa), De Ceglie (Juventus), De Silvestri (Lazio), Dessena (Parma), Giovinco (Juventus), Marchisio (Juventus), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Motta (Udinese), Nocerino (Palermo), Rocchi (Lazio), Rossi (Villarreal), Viviano (Brescia)
With Lazio striker Tamasso Rocchi the only overage player in the squad (which is highly surprising), Casiraghi’s team is mostly composed of the same group that took the 2008 Toulon Tournament in late May.
American born / Italian committed Giuseppe Rossi was named to the roster and expected to lead the attack with Sebastian Giovinco.
Alternates: Candreva (Udinese), Ranocchia (Arezzo), Russotto (Napoli), Sirigu (Palermo)
Italy kickoff their Beijing experience in Group D with Honduras on Aug. 7, Korea Republic on Aug. 10 and Cameroon on Aug. 13

Will be underrated by someone who looks at Brazil and Argentina, but i’m pulling for Italy and the US to medal…
