Road Trip Toronto
Filed under: Culture, FC Uptown, FCD, Friends, Toronto FCOver the weekend I took a trip north of the border to visit Toronto and meet a couple friends and go to the FC Dallas-Toronto FC game.
After driving about 6 hours (I live in OH these days) I got to Toronto and checked into the Canadiana Hostel and met the crew. Staying at a hostel was a pretty random idea, but the location was great, there were a ton of Euro backbackers looking to grab a brew at one of the hundreds of local pubs, and of course it was dirt cheap. Hey, who needs air conditioning?
The Texas invasion force does not seem to scare the locals…
We walked over to pre-game a bit with the Red Patch Boys. Meeting the Red Patch Boys was very cool - let’s be honest, it can be strange to meet a bunch of Texans rolling up - but the guys could not have been nicer and we had some good laughs here. Notice the boots with shorts look, Yikes!
A Lot More Pics After The Jump…
This was at kickoff. The girls in front of us later said they liked when we sang the “Dallas” theme.
Here is Kenny Cooper going in for the penalty kick to put FCD up 1-0 following the controversial red card on Guevara. The fans went fairly bonkers and lobbed several drinks onto the field.
Fans express the universal symbols for anger and frustration….
Cooper blasted another goal to ice the game for Dallas and give Coach Hyndman the win and Cooper the Player of the Week. The Dallas players even walked to the corner of the field and clapped up our direction after the game - hey, they heard us!
Should be fun getting out…! Several locals came up and asked us how we liked the game and atmosphere. BMO and the fans are tremendous. All MLS clubs should work to create what comes natually here in Toronto.
We raised the US flag, which is a fairly controversial move at BMO I found out later. No harm intended though.
Waiting to say hello and thank the players, we hung out and tried to look tough for the locals.
MOTM Cooper looks at my buddy’s hand with disdain, then sees the Dallas jersey and gives him a big handshake.
Coach Hyndman with his first road win and was all smiles with the travelling crew. A little different atmosphere than playing Creighton, no?
Post-game all was forgiven. The Toronto supporters are an amazing group, and a very friendly bunch of people with great attitudes. Beer is 5% in Toronto, did you know that?
Bonding over foosball and Steam Whistle beer…
Pretty soon I was back on the road to the USA. Good times. A big thank you to all the great peeps I met up in T-town! Best of Luck and see you in Dallas!

good to see the home town represented north of the border.
Big ups to the Big D!
GO HOOPS!!!!!!
Staying at a Hostel? L O L, what a loser you are. You run this site from the Columbus Public Library? Here is a tip, instead of lusting after sneakers you obviously cant afford, why dont you try and rustle up some advertisers.
Pablito, you may be right, I should have stayed at the local Hilton. Then again, I would not have made the front page of the “The Canadiana Hostel Blog”!
