Lewis Looks Set For Galaxy, Gibbs To Rapids

Eddie Lewis

As our DP partner in crime Ives already told you, Eddie Lewis looks set to sign with the Los Angeles Galaxy after the club passed on Cory Gibbs, who was taken at the number 2 Allocation Position that the Colorado Rapids held.

Ummmmm… just a couple questions if you have a sec.

1. If LA just fired their Head Coach AND their GM, who made the decision to pass on the 28 year old Cory Gibbs? Hopefully not the guy who signed Dominguez, who started his first game (ouch) and then sat on the bench for his second.

2. If you passed on Cory Gibbs, was there something that the medical staff saw last Friday when he was with the team that made them think that signing him would be a major risk?

3. If that wasn’t the case, why wouldn’t you sign the guy who could hands down help your team out without a shadow of a doubt?

4. No disrespect to Eddie Lewis (because I honestly think he will be a great offensive addition to the LA Galaxy), but it’s not going to matter how many goals you score if you’re giving up more.

Remember, even if you release a player as of right now, teams are still on the hook for their salaries until January 1st, unless the said player signed an extension contract (which is very common in this league) on the last day of June before salaries became guaranteed.

With Colorado sitting in 5th place in the West with 6 wins, 10 losses and 3 ties for 21 points, I wonder if having Gibbs sit in the back with Ihemelu and (insert name here) will allow Pablo Mastroeni to push up into the midfield in Clavijo’s preferred 3-5-2 formation as of late.

Or does Gibbs going to Colorado signal the exit for Mastroeni’s long talked about move abroad?
