The Riddler???
Filed under: Dark Knight, MoviesI almost cant even type write now because I’m so fired up…
My head might explode if this actually comes to fruition…
I’ll let Michael Caine explain…
in an interview with MTV News up at the Toronto Film Festival, he dropped these lovely jewels:
“They’ve already got them in mind,” said Caine, when asked who he’d like to see take up arms against the Caped Crusader. “It’s Johnny Depp as The Riddler. And The Penguin is Philip Seymour Hoffman. I read it in the paper.”
Lets just say casting Depp as the Riddler would be a home run:
from wiki: “The Riddler is typically portrayed as a smooth-talking, yet quirky, victim of an intense obsessive compulsion.
Oh boy! Michael Caine may have started something…
And by the way, I love old guys, the just dont give a f%^&.. they say whatever the hell comes to mind and dont care to clean it up… Later in the interview he goes on to say:
“When Christopher [Nolan] said we were going to do ‘The Dark Knight’ next, I didn’t what that meant in Batman terms,” related Caine, who plays Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. “I said, ‘What’s the story?’ and he said The Joker. I said, ‘Oh, s–t! How are you going to top Jack [Nicholson]?’ He said, ‘Well, I’ve cast Heath Ledger. And I went ‘Ha! I couldn’t top Jack, but if anyone could, maybe Heath could.’ And he did.
“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’” [Laughs]
I will have to agree with my English friend… they have done it again. Michael Caine, who happens to be a big Chelsea fan(we can forgive him for that) plays The Dark Knights butler Alfred Pennyworth and has been acting at a high level for many many years. He has won two oscars and is one of two actors that has been nominated for an Oscar in every decade since the 60s. The other… Jaaaaack!
Needless to say, I am eagerly awaiting this flick if the rumors are true. We were wondering what the hell they were going to do to try and top this latest flick, and I think this might at least give them a shot. I can’t wait!

I will step in and be the killjoy. It is not true. And neither is the rumour making the rounds that Will Smith was offered Captain America.
For the next Batman, if there is a next one, Chris Nolan doesn’t even have a story yet. He is on vacation. The Hoffman rumour has been around a long while sadly.
Sorry to have to bring things down. There is always the chance Nolan could be inspired by these rumours; but we are a long way from even having a story or script for the next Batman film.
Good thing is between The Dark Knight’s success and Marvel kicking ass for the most part at the movies, Warner Brothers is revamping how it does super hero films. Bad thing is the WB execs still don’t get it and want to go dark with all their heroes.
Studio Execs never seem to quite understand their own business and product.
As long as they stay with the realistic aspects of the characters and don’t turn them into cartoons like Jim Carey and Danny Devito’s version. I hope Heath wins and oscar for his Joker role.
