agreed, pretty weak.

But I did dig Deepak Chopra's take on 'Obama and the Palin Effect'. Be it depressing as all hell, he speaks the truth:

whats so good about this commercial? a bunch of people saying they're PC - ya i get it - Microsoft trying to connect with real people.

But the apple commercials actually communicate value in their products. They address the differences between PCs and Macs and spin it into macs favor.
These microsoft commercials are all fluff. it's a bunch of big names that they paid big money to just to say the words "I'm a PC". I mean, Tony Parker? Am I to assume that Tony Parker uses a PC? Assuming that that message comes across, which i dont think it does very well, what does he use it for? The Apple ads actually reference capabilities, functions, features. Microsoft only references big names that use their product. It's not a sneaker, it's a computer!

Apples campaign is smarmy and stuck up, J-Ro, you're spot on. But with that campaign apple has successfully re-branded their own competition. These new Microsoft ads, while they implicitly say that they're trying to rebrand toward the common man, doesn't actually provide any proof points or differentiators to back up this re-branding. MSFT just doesn't get marketing, no matter who they hire to build their ad campaign.

Can you tell I work in PR?

maybe i'm betraying my PC partisanship here, but i feel like this commercial pwns the smarmy, stuck-up campaign Apple has been running since forever. too bad it took them so long to respond.
