New Balance released the original version of these in 1982 to mark the first American expedition, led by the legendary mountaineer Lou Whittaker, to the infamous North Face of Mount Everest. All I know is that if you live in a cold climate, you might need to make these your go to hiking boots / sneakers for this winter. Available at select retailers, including Caliroots.
