Maybe i’m wrong but I thought the top three teams from each conference got in, followed by the next best teams independent of their conference. If i’m right then their graph is wrong. They show six eastern conference teams and only two western conference teams.
You are correct on the order of the MLS playoffs. I don’t think the line in his single table chart (below the team charts) represents in/out of playoffs - just the top 8 teams. His line is a little misleading perhaps. If you check out DCU, on the graph it shows them on the outside of the playoffs looking in right now, although their record is 6th best overall on the table below.

Agggghhh. Thanks Jay Five. I’m doing it wrong!!! What was I thinking? I coded up USL first and must have forgotten to change that piece for MLS. I’m using top 2 from each conference and 4 wildcard. I’ll fix it pronto and recompute, thank you much for setting me straight.
