In a controversial move, Italian Football authorities handed Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino a two match ban for “serious unsporting conduct” after Sunday’s 3 – 1 win over Palermo in which the Italian scored a goal with his right hand that went unseen by the referee during a sliding challenge with a defender.

The Serie A’s top goal scorer with 7 to his name in only 7 matches will now miss Wednesday’s match at home against Inter Milan and Sunday’s match at Siena.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini had called for the Fiorentina forward to be issued with a five-game ban, but Zampirini was even more frustrated with the reaction from Gilardino saying, “He even celebrated, incredible.”
