On behalf of the players, assistant coaches and staff of the Houston Dynamo I would like to thank you for your support during Thursday’s press conference, which was hosted by the East End Chamber of Commerce, the East End Management District, the East Downtown Management District, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Camara de Empresarios Latinos de Houston. These local groups are all stakeholders in the East End and are 100% supportive of the stadium plan. Your signatures on the petition (which are being deliverd to elected officials today) to build a new stadium in the East End will surely go a long way in making our dream a reality.
This, however, is only the beginning…
More after the jump…
We still need your help in encouraging Harris County Commissioners and Houston City Council members to vote for using Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) 15 increment to fund the stadium. As you know, we have committed to invest over $50 million, which represents the bulk of the cost of the stadium. We believe that the public dollars requested from Harris County and the City of Houston via TIRZ 15 are modest and fiscally responsible.According to an independent study conducted by the Economics Research Associates (ERA), Minute Maid Park, Reliant Stadium and Toyota Center generate approximately $80 million in local and state annual tax revenue. Annually, operations of the new stadium is estimated to generate $16.5 million annually, including $9.3 million in direct revenue and $7.2 million in indirect and induced impacts to Harris County. ERA expects a total of 147 jobs, along with 62 additional jobs from indirect and induced economic activity.Over the past three years you have supported the Dynamo by attending games and rooting the team to two consecutive championships. Now we need your help in securing the long-term future for the team. Commissioner Sylvia Garcia was quoted in the Chronicle as saying “I will keep listening until I hear from the taxpayers that this is something they really want us to do.” Well, let’s let Commissioner Garcia and her colleagues at the City and County know that we do support the stadium. Please take a moment and send an e-mail explaining your support for the new stadium. * Harris County Judge Ed Emmett: judge.emmett@cjo.hctx.net
