The English Football Association has handed down a 3 match ban to Chelsea striker Didier Drogba after he was found guilty of Admitted to a charge of Violent Conduct / Throwing a Missile into the Away Crowd following their investigation over the Coin Throwing Incident.
With Drogba celebrating his 27th minute goal during Chelsea’s Carling Cup 4th round match against Burnley (which they went on to lose 5 – 4 in Pk’s), the Ivory Coast international picked up a coin that had been thrown at him, gave the Burnley supporters the bird and flung the coin back into the crowd where it came from.
Liverpool’s Jaime Carragher was Red carded and also suspended for 3 matches following a similar incident back in 2002.
Drogba will start serving his 3 match ban immediately, missing the upcoming Newcastle, Arsenal and Bolton fixtures.
