FA Wants Mickey Mouse Apology

Filed under: English Football Association, Newcastle, Sunderland

UPDATE -  Seems like the FA didn’t like what they heard as they have officially charged Newcastle head coach Joe Kinnear with “Improper Conduct”.

Joe Kinnear - Mickey Mouse

After branding Martin Atkinson a “Mickey Mouse referee” following Newcastle’s 2 – 1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage, the English Football Association has chosen not to fine manager Joe Kinnear and instead has warned him of future conduct.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, he said: “[Claudio] Cacapa was on the ball and [Andy] Johnson completely pushes him out the way, nicks the ball and gets the penalty.

“We have got the Mickey Mouse referee doing nothing. He’s made an error that cost us.”

“While he will not face any formal disciplinary action on this occasion, he has been advised that in the event of similar public comments, disciplinary proceedings may be brought against him,” read the statement.

Atkinson was also at the center of Roy Keane’s Improper Conduct charge following Sunderland’s loss at Stamford Bridge when the Irishman confronted the referee at midfield just after the first half whistle.

Have a listen to his rant at reporters before he was even on the touchline for Newcastle.
