Newcastle have confirmed that month to month head coach Joe Kinnear has been given a contract extension that will keep the 61 year old in charge for the rest of the season following Saturday’s impressive 0 – 0 result at Chelsea.

With 2 wins and 4 draws over the course of 8 matches and seemingly stabilizing a Magpies squad that looked in major disarray in the early parts of the 2008 / 09 Premiership campaign, Kinnear’s influence within the squad has overshadowed the ownership situation at St. James’ Park.

Managing Director Derek Llambias said: ‘Joe has done an excellent job since coming to the Club and everyone is delighted that he has agreed to remain in charge for the rest of the season.’
