After making his debut for the Senior side back on December 2nd, 1995 against Sevilla, Jose Maria Gutierrez made his 500th appearance in a Real Madrid uniform during Madrid’s 3 - 1 loss to Getafe.

Although it should have been time for celebrations, Guti took a different approach following the disappointing result saying, “We are sad, but we have to be positive because there is a long season to go. We have only played 14 games, we cannot think that this is the end or anything as dramatic as that.”

“It is difficult to win a game when you concede two goals in the first two minutes of each half. We all tried hard, but we knew from history that Getafe is a dangerous team that likes playing against us. We tried to recover but it was not possible, so there is no excuse.”

After hitting the milestone of 500 games for Los Merengues, Guti said ” I am very happy to have played 500 games, and I am proud to belong to and form part of the history of Real Madrid. However, it is a bittersweet feeling because of the loss.”
