Real Madrid Sporting Director Pedrag Mijatovic has admitted to tracking Holland International Klass Jan Huntelaar for the last two years before making the outright move to pay 20 Million Euro to Ajax for his services as soon as the January Transfer Window opens.

“The loss of [Ruud] van Nistelrooy forced us to accelerate our interest in Huntelaar,” he told Radio Nacional de Espana.

“We wanted to provide our coach [Bernd Schuster] and the players with an extra solution in attack and we decided to sign Huntelaar because he is a great goalscorer.

“We’ve been following him for the last two years and even though we had other options, we concluded that he would be best for us for our long-term project,” added Mijatovic.

“He has practically recovered now from his sprained ankle and I believe that it was a good deal for us. It has been very difficult to prise him away from a great club like Ajax,” he elaborated.
