Italian International and A.C. Milan defensive midfielder Gennaro Gattusso looks to be out for the rest of the season after post match scans showed that he had torn the ACL in his right knee.

The injury occurred during Milan’s 1-0 win over Catania on Sunday. Gattuso played the entire match, as the extent of the problem only became evident afterward.

Gattuso underwent an MRI on Tuesday that showed the torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Milan said that team physician Jean Pierre Meersseman would accompany Gattuso to Antwerp, Belgium, on Wednesday for further tests with specialist Marc Martens.

Gattuso could miss up to six months, which would also rule him out of Italy’s World Cup qualifiers with Montenegro on March 28 and Ireland on April 1.
