With Inter head coach Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen his squad ahead of their Champions League showdown with Manchester United, reports coming out of England are placing Michael Owen at the head of the line with the possibility of Inter’s on Benfica loan David Suazo heading in Newcastle’s direction.

The Italians are confident they can tie up a deal for first choice Didier Drogba in the summer after the Ivory Coast striker further upset Chelsea this week by claiming he was not given support when his grandmother died in June.

The 29-year-old Owen is out of contract at St James’ Park in the summer and has so far turned down an extended deal, meaning Inter could get him on the cheap.

The Italian champions intend to offer David Suazo as part exchange. The Honduras striker is currently on loan at Benfica, where he has scored five in nine appearances.

And although the 29-year-old has indicated he would like to stay in Portugal until the end of the season, Corriere dello Sport report that he would be interested in a switch to NewcastleImage via Wikimedia
