Dunny
What were some of the beep test scores for guys on the Nats? I assume Hejduk had the record?
Would love to know!
Dunny, trying to understand how gruelling it gets - is it like high school “two a days” out there? Guys puking, coaches yelling “suck it up…if you can’t take this, you can get on 515 airport shuttle…” etc etc?
Travis,
Out of all the times I’ve been in camp (which is 6 or 7 times dating ack to 1998), Frankie’s been the fittest (and that’s including Columbus and the Olympic Team in 2000). The only one near him was Stevie Cherundolo.
Pierre is by far the best in the country at what he does and one of the main reasons (which Bruce has backed publicly) why the US had the success it did in 2002 (think Landon’s 65 yard run against Mexico for the header off of Lewis’ cross).
The coaches are usually out there motivating guys, but to be honest, if you show up to camp out of shape, you’ve got no chance and they definitely notice who’s been taking care of themselves and who wants to be there.
There’s absolutely no reason to be unfit (regardless if it’s the offseason) at the Full National Team level… that’s the easiest part of the entire process.
