Ramon Calderon

Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon is a lightning rod for the Spanish Press, a man who makes bold promises and tough decisions daily as the leader of one of the biggest clubs in the world, so when accusations of fixing Real Madrid’s December 7th General Assembly start flying about you know Spanish Newspaper giants Marca is going to be all over it.

Ramon Calderon took the opportunity to appear on a number of radio interviews last night, including Radio Marca’s ‘Onda Cero’ and Cadena SER’s ‘El Larguero’, where he wholeheartedly denied any unlawful activity.

“This is a dirty trick played by someone and it has no truth to it whatsoever,” he boomed.

“Neither myself nor any of my board members tried to manipulate the assembly or even allowed it to be manipulated.

“But if in fact there were people who attended the assembly who shouldn’t be there, then they will be punished accordingly.”

Calderón then went on to drop the bombshell that with all the accusations and issues surrounding his board at present, he has no desire to run for re-election. But he was also quick to point out that it does not mean he will quit.

“It would be madness to resign. There are a number of candidates ready to replace me but the players and the coaches would plunge into chaos. It would make no sense,” he concluded.

THE CLAIMS OF A “VICTIM”

At a press conference held at the Bernabéu, Calderón announced that both Luis Bárcena and Mariano Rodríguez ‘Nanín’ (his directors) have been sacked, and that he has nothing to do with any of the ‘non-members’ who voted in favour of him at the Assembly.

“The first results of the investigation has led me to establish the responsibility of an employee with access to the job, and we have decided to dismiss Luis Bárcena, Director General of the Club’s Social Area, and Mariano Rodríguez ‘Nanín’, the collaborator for the board of directors,” began the president.

“This happened with him [Nanín] in charge, but the investigations will not end with these dismissals. The boys [who participated in the Assembly and voted for Calderón] are friends of Nanín, but I do not have any relation with them.

“All the board of directors and I have experienced a nasty surprise upon reading the information in the press.  I swear that none of us has participated, neither direct nor indirectly, in the presence of unauthorized people in the Assembly of the Real Madrid…The club has placed in motion a commission of investigation to clear up what happened.”

MARCA CALLS CALDERON OUT

“I swear by my honour that I did not know them at all.”

However, Marca has revealed today that those words are not exactly true, as they suggest the president knew at least a few of the people.

The newspaper has published documents and pictures showing that in fact some of the people involved in the ‘incident’ at he Assembly, were in fact friends of his brother Ignacio, and his son Jaime.

There are photographs taken with the group together in Rome, where they are at the theatre, and whilst they are sailing together in a yacht.

CALDERON CALLS PRESS CONFERENCE

The Santiago Bernabéu will be the centre of attention this evening after Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón, has called a press conference to take place at 19.30 CET.

Marca reports that the president will attempt to explain the events of recent days which have seen accusations of ‘rigging’ the Assembly levelled at him and his board.

The Madrid based newspaper has already presented plenty of information showing that various ‘ineligible’ people did vote at the Assembly, and in favour Calderón, including today photos of the ‘guilty’ parties.Image via Cronodeporte
