Jordan Cyrus, Norfolk Academy (Norfolk, Va.): Cyrus, the state¹s private school co-player of the year, scored more than 100 career goals and is Norfolk Academy¹s all-time leading scorer. The Maryland-bound striker scored nearly 300 career points.
Erik Hurtado, Westview (Portland, Ore.): Hurtado, the two-time Oregon Class 6A Player of the Year, capped a stellar career with 25 goals and nine assists while helping his team to the state final. Hurtado has committed to Santa Clara.
Harrison Petts, Zionsville (Ind.): Petts, a member of the under-18 national poll, would have been Indiana¹s coaches¹ Player of the Year had it not been for a rule that the player of the year must be a senior. Petts scored 41 goals with 26 assists. A standout at last summer¹s ESP elite soccer camp, Petts will be one of the nation¹s top Class of 2010 prospects.
Kevin Bick, St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.): Bick was in on 25 goals to earn the coaches¹ state player of the year honors for the second straight season. The Indiana commit helped St. Xavier to a two-year record of 47-1-2 with a pair of state titles.
Ryan Finley, Rancocas Valley (Mount Holly, N.J.): After returning to high school ball following two years in the US Soccer Residency program, Finley led Rancocas Valley to a state title and a FAB 50 Top 10 finish. Finley, the Philadelphia Inquirer South Jersey Player of the Year. The Duke-bound senior had 20 goals and six assists.
Alex Sweetin, Rockhurst Jesuit (Kansas City, Mo.): Sweetin, the Kansas City Star and Missouri state coaches Player of the Year guided Rockhurst to a second straight state title and a FAB 50 national ranking. The St. Louis bound midfielder had 26 goals and 25 assists.
Zarek Valentin, Manheim Township (Lancaster, Pa.): Valentin helped Manheim Township to the state quarterfinals where the team lost to eventual state champion Downingtown West. Valentin is part of Akron¹s highly decorated recruiting class and a US Soccer under-18 national team member.
Andrew Wenger, Warwick (Lititz, Pa.): Wenger was a defensive starter on a state champion as a freshman, but made his name the past three years in midfield. He was named the state¹s player of the year by the coaches after a 20-goal, 17-assist season.
Brian Forgue, Downingtown West (Downingtown, Pa.): Forgue was the Philadelphia Inquirer Southeast Pennsylvania Player of the Year after helping Downingtown West to a Class AAA state title and a FAB 50 No. 10 finish. During his four-year career, the Penn State commit led Downingtown West to a 69-5-2 record.
Eric Martinez, Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.): Martinez was named the state¹s player of the year by the coaches association. The South Carolina commit was a finalist for the NSCAA National Player of the Year.
Matt Wiet, Kilbourne (Worthington, Ohio): Wiet started the year as a midfielder but fell back to defense and helped his squad to an 18-3 record with 13 shutouts. The Indiana commit was named the Ohio coaches State Player of the year.
Scott Goodwin, Broughton (Raleigh, N.C.): The North Carolina-bound keeper posted 14 shutouts and had a goals-against average of 0.39.
Coach: Bill Vieth, Reitz Memorial (Evansville, Ind.): After graduating six starters from an undefeated state title squad, Reitz Memorial was expected to take a step backward in 2008. That wasn¹t the case. Vieth guided the team to a second straight undefeated season, capped with a second straight state title – a significant feat in Indiana where all schools play for one state title.
