Due to heavy snowstorms in England, the English Premier League is looking to extend the Winter Transfer Window beyond the 5pm window today on case by case basis.

A league statement says clubs will have to prove that a deal has been agreed in principle and that the weather has prevented the deal being completed in time.

Snowy conditions in Britain and elsewhere in Europe threaten to delay medicals, the agreement of personal terms and the business of players putting pen-to-paper on contracts.

However, clubs could yet file agreements with League officials before the deadline and complete the formalities at a later date were an extension to be agreed by football chiefs.

The deadline for this transfer window is due to expire at 1700GMT Monday and the Premier League are still asking their teams to work to that time.

“We are exploring with the FA and FIFA whether an extension can be given in terms of medicals and personal terms,” said a Premier League spokesman.

Premier League general secretary Mike Foster added on Sky Sports: “It is already having an effect in terms of players getting from one end of the country to another. We’re currently trying to gauge the level of activity.

“It would be nice to just extend the deadline but we cannot make the decision alone – we have to talk to the FA, who have to liaise with FIFA.”
