The Welsh wonderkid has gone on to become the most decorated player in United’s illustrious history. Ten Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, two League Cups, four FA Cups and plenty of other medals have followed.
He overtook Bobby Charlton’s all-time United appearance record when United beat Chelsea in the Champions League final in May and is now closing in on 800 first-team games.
And he is the only player to have scored in 11 successive Champions League campaigns – and broke Celtic’s hearts with a late equaliser at Parkhead in November last year to keep that run going.
