After being sent to the hospital from the team hotel before last weekend’s 3 – 2 win at West Brom, reports coming out of England are claiming that Kinnear is seemingly set for heart surgery.

“Joe Kinnear’s season could be over after doctors told him he needs an emergency heart bypass operation.

The Newcastle manager is expected to have surgery this week after tests carried out following his admission to hospital at the weekend revealed a problem which needs to be addressed. Kinnear had been hoping to return home today after telling the Newcastle Evening Chronicle that he felt “fighting fit” after three days in hospital but had been due to see a cardiologist yesterday afternoon.

Kinnear was admitted to Sutton Coldfield hospital on Saturday morning after club doctors diagnosed high blood pressure ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League fixture against West Brom.

If an operation is neccessary, doctors are likely to advise complete rest during his recovery, making it unlikely that he would feature in the remainder of Newcastle’s season.

The 62-year-old Kinnear spent six months away from management after a heart attack while with Wimbledon in 1999.”
