The 31-year-old broke the record with his first goal in the 4-0 win at Sporting Gijon, volleying in from Sergio Ramos’s cross from the right. He added a second after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Marcelo had extended Real’s lead, rounding off victory in the 77th minute.
Raul, also the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League, has helped the club win six Spanish league titles during almost 15 years at the Bernabeu. He has also won the Champions League three times and has picked up 102 caps for Spain, scoring a record 44 goals for his country.
