“Donovan is an interesting player,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the Munich newspaper TZ in an interview published Tuesday. “But when you have Klose, Toni and Olic already under contract, we think the fourth player (striker) should really be a young player with perspective.”

Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni are Bayern’s starting strikers, while Hamburg’s Ivica Olic has been signed as a free agent for next season. Backup striker Lukas Podolski is returning to FC Cologne at the end of the season.

After arriving at Bayern, Donovan said he would be interested in a longer contract. He scored four goals in practice games and has made four appearances, all as a substitute, in the Bundesliga and the German Cup, without scoring.

Donovan failed to break through in two earlier Bundesliga stints, both with Bayer Leverkusen.

“Interesting player” is like saying he has a “nice personality”.

I hope Donovan continues to play strong, because whatever Bayern might think, there are probably other European teams keeping an eye him as a potential striker. I would love to see him play in La Liga, if that’s possible. Of course, as a Galaxy fan, I’ll be happy to have him back in a month.

I’d love to see him in La Liga as well. I was surprised Everton didn’t make a run at him over the break too.

i knew it, sucks for such a good player. im sure he will wind up somewhere else. maybe even the EPL?

    damnit i need to edit…

Maybe a move to the EPL to a smaller club like Wigan, or potentially even Tottenham? Fulham has always liked Americans.

I want to see him at Everton too. Will this open the door? I still think he’s better as a center mid and should contend for Schweinsteiger’s spot at Bayern.

Donovan should go to Italy or Spain…England would be to physical for his style.
