from espn:
Tickets for the 2010 World Cup went on sale on the internet and in bank branches around South Africa on Friday, with organisers declaring it was irrevocable proof that the finals would go ahead in the country.
Some 700,000 tickets for the first World Cup hosted in Africa are available for purchase out of a total of just over 3 million for the 64 games between June 11-July 11 next year.
Fans have until the end of March to apply for tickets before going into a random draw lottery in April to determine the successful applicants.

From my quick read of the rules and FAQs it’s clear that you have to provide the names of the ticket holders during the application process, but it’s not clear if there will be a process to make changes at a later time. This is frustrating, because it’s hard to find people who can make an absolute commitment to buying tickets this far ahead.
If you guys hear anything about what FIFA will do about transferring the name on tickets, I would love to hear about it.
yea so i got my 7 games picked out… goin to need a small loan if i get all 7 though
