Possible Changes at FCD, Struggling w/Sales

“According to multiple 3rd Degree sources, FC Dallas front office personnel were informed at a meeting just over a week ago that General Manager Michael Hitchcock was removed from responsibility for ticket sales.

The impetus for the move, according to our sources, is that as of a week ago less than 5000 tickets had been sold for the FCD opening game against the Chicago Fire.”

“Having already been pulled from responsibility for marketing, corporate partnerships and sponsorship, as well as most another areas, Hitchcock is now apparently left with only the soccer operations under his domain. As most people know Schellas Hyndman has the real control in the team area with his direct line to the Hunts. Hitch’s presence in Brazil is also fairly indicative that he still has a large role in the relationships with partner clubs and as the face of the franchise.

From being around the franchise this spring there seems to be a general sense of disorganization and lack of direction. With various levels of the company reporting to either Hitchcock or straight to John Wagner at Hunt Sports Group, there seems to be a sense of disconnect. Rumors continue to swirl around the team and franchise that a new General Manager may not be that far down the road.

Yet the Hunts just picked up Hitchcock’s option this winter and they don’t have a track record of firing people before their contracts run out. It’s unclear what direction the club may go. Chaos is certainly the mode of the day it seems.

Yet in all this the winter plan seems to be going well with the team on the field. How long that might old up with no one in the stands is hard to say. Certainly there is time for tickets to be sold, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot going on to market and sell the team.”
