Campo de Fiori

The 3,400 traveling Arsenal supporters have been urged to stay away from the main gathering spot for Roma supporters, the Campo de Fiori as well as being warned that they could be “at risk” if they travel alone to Stadio Olimpico.

The Italian capital has come under the microscope in the wake of several high-profile incidents in recent years, most notably when a number of Manchester United fans were wounded in clashes with Roma fans in two separate incidents in the city in 2007.

Controversially, despite a chequered recent history of crowd trouble outside the stadium and the heavy-handed tactics of the carabinieri inside the venue itself, Rome has been selected by UEFA as the host for this season’s Champions League final.

However European football’s governing body has warned city officials that any serious acts of hooliganism between now and showpiece final on May 27 could see the game moved elsewhere.

In the booklet circulated by Arsenal the fans are warned: ”If you travel to the stadium independently, please be aware you are at risk,”

”Do not take trains to the Piazza Flaminio or attempt to use the Ponte Duca D’Aosta bridge as these are habitual routes taken by the Ultras. Please stay away from the Campo De Fiori.”
