The man who has represented the Mexican National Team 178 times, playing in 3 World Cups (and should have been 4 if he hadn’t broken his leg in a Friendly leading up to the 2002 edition) and appearing in 59 games (with 9 goals and being named Defender Of The Year in 2006 and 2007) in 3 years for Chivas USA has walked away from the game and he isn’t too pleased about the way it was handled.
Luis Bueno’s take over at The Touchline is a can’t miss as he’s got some great quotes from Claudio Suarez, one of the nicest and most generous men the game has seen in recent times.
Nick Green over at 100 Percent Soccer is reporting that Suarez will stay in Southern California and put together youth soccer clinics with another Mexican legend and former Chivas USA teammate, Ramon Ramirez.
“Chivas USA would like to thank Claudio Suárez for his years of service to the club, and to the sport of soccer as a whole,” the club said in a statement. “Although we are sorry to hear of his retirement, we respect his decision. Claudio is a living legend of international soccer, and his presence on the field and in our locker room will not be easily replaced.”
