The Houston Dynamo’s search for a striker following the Expansion Draft loss of Nate Jaqua has seemingly ended after head coach Dominic Kinnear introduced 34 year old Nigerian Ade Akinbiyi to the press Monday afternoon at the team’s headquarters in downtown Houston.
While acknowledging former MLS veteran (and more importantly our boy) Dante Washington’s role in brining Akinbiyi to the attention of the Dynamo, Kinnear and Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti admitted they were excited about having the former Norwich City, Bristol City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Sheffield United striker available once the final touches of his buyout with Burnley is finalized.

“Our search for a forward has been very public since the offseason,” said Canetti. “Finally we have settled on a player who we thing will come here and bring great results. We are very happy to have him join us.”
“Since then we have been finalizing the finer points of his contract,” said Canetti. “He has signed an MLS contract to play with the Dynamo. Having said that, there are still a few more steps that need to happen before he becomes an official member of the team. Once he finalizes his buyout with (Burnley) we will be able to file for officially for the international transfer paperwork.”
“Fortunately I knew the coach well enough at Burnley to give him a call and ask about (Akinbiyi’s availability,” said Kinnear. “The coach there (Steve Davis) spoke very well of him there, and said he has a great attitude both on and off the field. (Davis) asked me to describe to him the kind of player that we were looking for and he said Ade would be the perfect fit for us.”
“But looking at his resume and taking a look at what he has been able to do the last couple of years, he could be a very important part of our team,” Kinnear said. “You can tell just by looking at him, and his size, the thing that he will be able to bring to us is pace, power and strength.
