“Michael Brian Ogden’s Bleeding Red, a new play about soccer fans, gets its world premiere April 9-May 30 by The Purple Rose Theatre Company, the Michigan theatre that often stages new work by Midwestern writers. Opening is April 17.

In this comedy with adult humor, according to PRTC, “the biggest football match in twenty years is about to kick off across the pond in London. Tommy [to be played by the playwright], confirmed bachelor and passionate Liverpool fan, arrives at his best mate Bobby’s flat to discover he’s been dumped by his fiancĂ©e. Trouble is, Bobby is the linchpin of the all-important pre-game ritual. Tommy must get him on his feet before the game starts, even if it means recruiting the help of another traitorous female, Bobby’s fetching sister Sarah.”

Bleeding Red is the first play from PRTC playmakers playwright Ogden, who describes himself as “a great soccer fan.”

Seems like a strange topic for a play. Big ups to Jeff Daniels for hosting this. If only Chelsea weren’t an hour and a half away…

And does anyone else find it weird that a play about Liverpool supporters is being hosted in a town called Chelsea?

There are a few of us here in Detroit who already knew about it and had planned on going. Good to see that it is getting more attention though. Should be fun, will followup with a review once we go!

You’re not the first to consider the irony of the Liverpool/Chelsea situation. Just wanted to say thanks for plugging my play. Big ups to this site for carrying the banner and all that. Hope to see you guys soon.

Saw the play last night. Highly recommend it. Very well written and acted. Great for soccer fans. We live 60 miles from Chelsea and it was worth the trip. Recommend grabbing a bite before or after the play at the Common grille. Within walking distance of the Purple Rose. This is a must see for all true FOOTBALL fans.

So when are you going to see it and post a review? The play ends May 30th.
