Is that a little tree on the beam? Weird. Is the tree gonna stay?

Red Bulls Reader explained how the tree is part of a construction tradition:

“In keeping with tradition, a tree was hoisted on top of the last beam, marking the highest structural element. The tree will remain in place throughout the remainder of the building process, and finally be planted nearby upon project completion.”

Being from SL I have to say - I’m a little jealous of NYRB new stadium. Looks like it’s going to be awesome.

And when they topped off Rio Tinto, the final piece of steel had a tree (and a flag, I think) etched into it. Apparently it’s a builders thing.
