The 43 year old referee, who is fluent in English, will be remembered by United fans as the man who sent off Paul Scholes in the Super Cup defeat to Zenit St Petersburg in August – a decision Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson did not contest.
Arsenal fans may remember him as the man in the middle of their 0-0 draw with AC Milan last season.
Larsen is a UEFA Elite Category referee who has taken charge of 17 Champions League fixtures and seven Uefa Cup games in his career
