My iPod died on me this morning leaving me without music at the gym. This got me thinking about the times before iPods or other MP3 players, and immediately I thought of the old Sony Walkmans.
I used to have one of these in elementary school or something. It might have even only had a fast forward button. I don’t remember exactly but I remember I would mash home from school listening to whatever mixtape I had attempted to make the night before. Take this with me before games and listen to whatever song got me hyped at that particular moment in my life. Which is exactly the same thing that is happening these days. People always talk about technology changing things and making everything busier and what not. And while I agree with this, I find that core things remain the same. Listening to your own playlist of songs, how you prepare for a big game or while getting ready to go out, how we find out about soccer news or even communicate with friends. The delivery of all of this has changed, but the message more often than not remains the same.
