Venezuelan striker Giancarlo Maldonado (L) and Argentine goalkeeper Federico Vilar of Mexico’s Atlante hold up the Trophy after winning the CONCACAF Champions League final soccer match against Cruz Azul of Mexico in Cancun in Mexico’s state of Quintana Roo May 12, 2009

from the miami herald:

Atlante claimed the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League title on Tuesday as they held Cruz Azul to a 0-0 draw in the second leg, securing a 2-0 aggregate win.

Atlante earned a 2-0 win over Cruz Azul in the first leg, and after the second leg, which was scheduled for April 29, was postponed due to concerns over swine flu, Atlante returned home and did enough to get the draw.

The visitors were first to produce a scoring chance as Alejandro Vela was played into the box in the 12th minute, but Atlante goalkeeper Federico Villar came off his line to smother the shot in the middle of the box.

Atlante then began to take control of the possession and they created a pair of opportunities with Fernando Navarro and Christian Bermudez both coming close to opening the scoring.

Despite trailing 2-0 on aggregate, Cruz Azul seemed reluctant to commit men forward as the game wore on and the visitors were not able to put enough pressure on the back line of the hosts to cause them any problems.
