Breakdown - Leonel Messi X F50i
Filed under: Adidas, Boots, Lionel MessiOne of the more interesting aspects that goes into picking up the right pair of boots (in my opinion) is the comfortability, breakdown and design of each pair for the hard earned money you’re about to throw down.
Check out Adidas’ breakdown and info on the F50i’s the Leonel Messi rocked last night after the Jump….
The new F50i is the fifth generation of the F50 series and introduces the innovative SprintSkin and a thermobonded lacecover. The renowned modularity of TUNiT™ technology continues here enabling players to create a boot tailored to their individual needs from various individual components. Players can choose from several uppers, two different chassis, two different insoles and three types of stud.
F50i BREAKDOWN:
The upper
Players are able to customize their boot according to personal preferences and weather conditions. Three different materials: SprintSkin synthetic, supple, easy-care and water-repellent upper in cyan and black. SprintSkin features a thermobonded lace cover. The lace cover increases the contact area between boot and ball and reduces the effect of the laces on ball control. The lace cover also prevents water from getting into the boot.
(Additional Options: Conventional leather upper in black or white or a breathable CLIMACOOL® upper in cyan.)
The chassis
Customize the interior of the boot with one of two different chassis to which the studs are subsequently attached. The comfort chassis offers perfect stability and stud pressure distribution, while the lightweight chassis additionally offers maximum flexibility in the forefoot area and significantly reduced weight.
The studs
The chassis selected is inserted into the upper and the studs can be screwed in from the outside. Three types of stud featuring TRAXION® technology ensure perfect hold and grip, whatever the conditions on the pitch.
The insole
Finally, the player can also determine the degree of comfort and breathability of the boot by choice of insole. Both the pre-molded, softly cushioned comfort insole and the slightly thinner, perforated and therefore extremely light, breathable insole offer a snug fit.
The heel element
A semi-transparent heel element with TPU provides a further reduction in the weight of the boot and an improvement in stability and flexibility thanks to its different degrees of hardness. The material in the heel section, where a high level of stability is required, is particularly strong and sturdy. The closer it gets to the forefoot, the softer and more flexible the material becomes. The result is a highly modern, lightweight and flexible football boot for every player.

Messi does not always wear the F50 and I don’t think he wore the shoe last night. He has been known to wear the $80 version, the F30, in games before and I think this is what he wore last night. Here is a link of him wearing the F30 in the past and it looks like there might be a middle cleat in the front of the shoe Messi is kissing which would make it the F30 version. I know adidas pushes these F50 a lot be Messi seems to prefer the bladed spikes found only on the F30. http://www.soccerbible.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/general.Sep08/sep08_5F00_messi.jpg
Nike would certainly put blades on a pair of F50s if Messi requested it. I mean, Taylor Twellman had customized Nikes for a while (possibly still does) and I’d be willing to wager that Messi is a bit more high priority than Twellman.
