“Fabio Capello and his staff have spent the past 24 hours looking for signs of wear and tear among the England squad in advance of their flight to Kazakhstan tomorrow for their penultimate World Cup qualifying match of a long season.
Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole were forced to sit out training yesterday and while both absences were described as a precautionary measure, Capello is eager to guard against fatigue as he prepares for matches against Kazakhstan and Andorra.
Capello has already had to rule out several players because of injury – David James, Wes Brown, Phil Jagielka, Michael Carrick, Stewart Downing and Aaron Lennon – and is prepared to be pragmatic about whether others are fit enough to appear against Kazakhstan on Saturday and against Andorra at Wembley four days later.”
