‘I rejoice in the signing of Cristiano but I do not want to talk any more about this subject because I am here with the Selecao (national team) and we are only thinking about winning the Confederations Cup.

‘But there’s no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world and he will help Real Madrid fight for every title next season.’

Perez has revealed that he is desperate to bring the glory days back to Real - and his spending could continue with the capture of Valencia striker David Villa and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery.

‘I want to relaunch the tradition of Real Madrid, which is to be faithful in providing a good show and giving the fans enthusiasm,’ Perez said.

‘In order to do that we have to focus on three crucial pillars - to play with great world-famous players, great Spanish players and great youth players. I want to recreate a Real Madrid that makes history.’

Portugal manager and former United No 2 Carlos Queiroz has insists Ronaldo has made the right move.

‘I want to congratulate Cristiano,” he said. ‘This is a dream that had been there for a year, or at least since I’ve known him.
