Glen Johnson

After having their 18.5 Million Pound bid accepted by Portsmouth, England International Glen Johnson and Liverpool are set to put the final touches on a switch that is believed include the final 7 Million Pound owed to Liverpool through the Peter Crouch move to Fratton Park last year.

The England international considered a straight choice between Liverpool and Chelsea after electing against a move to City due to their lack of Champions League football.

Johnson had indicated to Anfield officials that he favoured a move to Merseyside and that decision became simpler yesterday when Chelsea opted against re-signing the player they sold for £4m in 2007. It is believed problems selling José Bosingwa may have forced Chelsea’s sudden retreat, with the Stamford Bridge club unwilling to add another expensive right-back to their squad without off-loading the £16.2m Portugal international.

Johnson’s anticipated arrival at Anfield will be a major relief to Benítez following Barry’s move to City and the possible repercussions for Alonso, a long-time target for the new Real Madrid president, Florentino Pérez, and a player who remains disillusioned with his relationship with the Liverpool manager

Will be happy if this goes through, Liverpool were thin on the right side of defense.
Have to disagree with the comment that Alonso remains disillusioned with Rafa though, I think it gave Xabi a kick up the arse he needed, without doubt the Redmen’s best player 08/09 season.

You dont think someone else was a better performer? I think Yossi had a great season, although he didnt start often; along w/ Stevie.
