I too am little confused by what he means by, "as far as expected". Could he be referring to the National team or league? The teams can be considered comparable and the leagues? Well, MLS isn't the greatest but there are certain leagues in certain southern hemisphere island continents that aren't 1/2 the quality.
everyone knows it's going to England in '18 because Europe has the god given right to be at the center of the universe, but as for '22, the Aussies have nothing on us... except for their non-Americanness of course.

This guy seems a bit mis-informed...he didn't even know if it was 94 or 98 when the US hosted. You think Gulati doesn't know the host of every World Cup since its inception? Also, he says we haven't reached what was expected...who's expectations is he referring to? FIFA's? I think FIFA was pretty pleased to make as much $ as they did on the 94 Cup. We've also only qualified for every World Cup since 90 and made the quarters in 02. Yeah, we have a long way to go before we're a world power in the sport, but Australia has a much longer way to go than us.

With the rugby stadiums around probably anything from 50-80 thousand, would be a great place to have a world cup though............... but lets not beat about the bush, England will get the nod!

His point is not valid at all - we have a pro league now, and the US entertained more fans and made more money in 94 than any other WC before or since. Oh, and US citizens have purchased more WC 2010 tickets than any other country. Are Barcelona touring Australia this summer?
