After seeing his purchase option not picked up following a year loan with Sunderland and expessing his desire to remain in the Premiership, Panathinaikos have announced that they have reached an agreement with Marseille for 27 year old Djibril Cisse, contingent on personal terms.

Panathinaikos’s president, Nikolas Pateras, confirmed they have agreed a sum with the Ligue 1 club, thought to be around €8m (£6.8m).

“It’s a year that we’ve been interested in Cissé,” said Pateras. “There’s nothing left but for him to sign. We reached an agreement with Marseille, the player is coming with his wife and will stay two to three days in Greece and, if everything goes well, he will be a Panathinaikos player.”
