So you wonder what is up with all this news about Michael Jackson and his will, and his trust, and some people wonder why they care about a guy who was supposedly in debt somewhere in the range of $400m. Well, with millions of fans in mourning and so many people feeling the loss of the “King of Pop” there has been a serious impact on the music charts in the last week. There was never any doubt that the guy was talented and there was a little bit of an up tick in people wanting to get close to his music. The results are in from album sales in the U.S. and MJ has the top three slots in the Billboard chart this week and even more MJ related music in the top 50. See what is best and the numbers after the jump

For the Building Album sales chart from 06.29.2009:

1. Michael Jackson - Thriller

2. Michael Jackson - Essential

3. Michael Jackson - Number Ones

Bad, Jackson 5 - Greatest Hits and, Dangerous also charted this week. And thats just the album sales.. According to reports MJ more than 55 percent of the Jackson’s album sales last week were digital downloads. He had 36 songs in the top 200 Digital Song Chart, the researcher said. More than 2.95 million digital tracks were sold in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Last week, Jackson held eight of the top 10 positions on Nielsen SoundScan’s catalog chart, which lists sales of albums released at least 18 months ago.

So even though the estate is currently has a ton of debt on the books, when you think about his assets and the potential for income his music and legacy will bring from now until the end of time(think Elvis), there is a lot to wrangle over I guess.
